Scoutmaster's Corner

The Boy Scout Program has become an institution in the USA.  Everyone, regardless of race, creed, religion, etc., knows what it stands for and the principles it tries to instill in our youth.  My Scout philosophy is fairly simple and is founded in the principles of the BSA. The BSA mission statement really says it all, “The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.”

Scout Oath
Scout Law

On my honor I will do my best

To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.
A Scout is:
Trustworthy
Loyal
Helpful
Friendly
Courteous
Kind
Obedient
Cheerful
Thrifty
Brave
Clean
Reverent

The vision of the BSA is just as simple yet meaningful, “The Boy Scouts of America will prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Law.”

We as adult leaders in the BSA have the responsibility to support the mission and vision set forth by the BSA.  Not only do we have that responsibility, but also we owe it to our youth to prepare them as best we can for the challenges that await them as adults.  We can only achieve this through hard work, cooperation and training.  I challenge every adult involved with youth through the BSA program both in our troop and everywhere to get as much training as possible as that is the only way we can deliver the promise of the BSA to our youth, always remembering that every boy deserves a trained leader.

To our youth I promise to do my best to deliver the BSA program to help each and every one of you succeed in whatever path you choose and to support your decisions.  I may not always agree with those decisions and may counsel you on other options but in the end I will always support you if your decision is from the heart and lives up to the principles of the BSA.

Yours in Scouting
